Qualifying as an Electrician

Whilst the majority of our pupils continue to university, we are also seeing many successfully securing degree apprenticeships and joining the working world straight away.

It has been lovely to hear recently from ON Tom Tyler, Class of 2017, who decided that on leaving school he wanted to train as an electrician.

Tom's News - August 2022

"I know it’s been a few years since I left (5 years now!) but I thought that you’d like to know how it’s going and what I’ve been up to since leaving Adams. Last week I received the results from my AM2s exam, which is the final hurdle to becoming a fully qualified electrician. I managed to achieve a 99.6% mark, which was a very nice surprise, especially since only 40% of candidates that take the exam pass it first time.

I know you’ve always been keen to hear from past students and from those who didn’t take the conventional route of going to university and getting a degree before starting work. If you are ever after past students to give careers advice, I would be more than happy to help to talk to current students who are perhaps not sure what they would like to do; those like myself who know they don’t want to take the university route but are unsure what else to do. You quickly realise, once you are actually working and showing other people your skills, that you can progress much further than people would expect."
