We offer a supportive and inspirational environment in school and beyond. Whether you’re taking your first steps in the world of work, simply looking for a fresh challenge, or need advice about a mid-career change of direction, you’ve come to the right place.
Here you can either sign up to be a mentor yourself or find the perfect person to guide you through your career conundrum, based on industries and locations that are of interest to you. In addition, you can keep up to date with careers news, as well as post and view job opportunities.
Together we can help to provide an active and extensive support network for all our ONs.
Use these search boxes to find and message a potential mentor in an industry, function or location of interest to you. Your mentoring request could be for an email exchange, phone chat or coffee and could relate to university choice, work experience, career change, relocation, setting up a business or returning to work after mat leave. If you can’t find an immediate match try adjusting your search criteria or browse the featured mentors below.
The careers programme at Adams is greatly enhanced by the support of our Old Novaportan network. We are always keen to hear from ONs, parents and friends of school who would like to support pupils through our annual careers events. You can also contribute by giving an informal lunchtime talk on a particular career path, giving a Sixth Form lecture on a topic you think young people should know about, conducting a mock interview or participating in a mock assessment centre.
Mock Interviews
The first careers event of the year is mock interviews for early applicants to Oxford and Cambridge in Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry. These can be done over Zoom or in person.
Progression Week
Taking place in June for the Lower Sixth, Progression Week hosts a variety of speakers on all sorts of topics, such as CV writing, or how to choose the right university. The students can choose which is most relevant to them.
Activities Week
All year groups are off timetable and Mrs Wilson invites ONs back to take part in either Speed Networking, where guests face rapid-fire questions from enthusiastic year 9s about career paths, or the ON Forum, which focuses on recent leavers' experiences of life after Sixth Form.
ON talks
Throughout the year we arrange presentations for our Sixth Form pupils to help them discover more about university, training or career choices and we are very grateful when ONs are able to help with this, sharing their knowledge and experience. If you are able to help, we would love to hear from you.
Apprenticeships
With the increasing popularity of Degree Apprenticeships, we have been busy raising awareness of opportunities with our current pupils and would welcome your support. This could be online or in person. We would love to host a mock assessment centre in school to help students feel more confident with the application process.
