Back in our February 2021 ON Newsletter, we shared an item about Ian Thompson (76-83) being interested in setting up a Freemason’s Lodge for Old Novaportans.  Ian had a positive response and has written to let us know that he has been incredibly fortunate in being entrusted with one of the oldest lodges in the world – founded in 1790 – as the new home for Adams old boys (of any age).  Ian’s update is below:

“I became a member of a Lodge called St. Pauls’ earlier this year. Another Old Novaportan who left Adams just a few years ago has also joined and we are getting some Old Novaportans who left in recent years and who are already members of other lodges visiting too.  More Old Novaportans are in the pipeline to join and I hope that news of this will lead to other old boys also becoming interested.  We meet four times a year at Freemason’s Hall in central London, on the first Friday of May, June, July and September.  Meetings start late afternoon or early evening and are followed by dining after in a nearby restaurant.  As it’s Friday night, a few drinks get consumed as well!

"As well as supporting charities generally, which is one of the main aims of freemasonry, I hope that in time we can also find ways to start giving something back to the school that was such an important part of our lives.

"Anyone who has a connection with the school and is an existing mason or who is interested in joining can meet up with us for a drink to learn more.  If they would like to do this or are more generally interested, they can contact me at exadams@btinternet.com.”
