This year’s House Music continued to showcase the outstanding musical talent our school fosters. This year’s judge with the difficult task of choosing the winners was Sam Newth, a lifelong singer, songwriter and composer who now leads Telford and Wrekin Music.

During the daytime we got to see the full range of performers. Some standouts which sadly didn’t make it through to the evening were Owen House’s Ethan D’s performance of Sweet Dreams by Annie Lennox and the Owen band’s entertaining performance of Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis, both of which really did whip up the crowd.

Here are the final results:

Junior Solo instrumental

Talbot: Max T on piano, with his faultless Op. 10 No 12 by Chopin

Senior Solo Instrumental

Darwin: Arjun T on Piano: O Leib, Notturno No. 3 by Liszt

Junior Solo vocal

Darwin: Kit W singing “Waving Through a Window” from Dear Evan Hansen by B. Pasek and J. Paul

Senior Solo vocal

Talbot – Jaina Amedo, "My Days" from the Notebook by I. Michaelson

Instrumental Ensemble

Darwin – "Birdland" by M. Ferguson arr. Arjun Toora

Small choir

Each house performed their own version of "The Whole of the Moon" by The Waterboys, as chosen by Mr Hickey as this was his last House Music before he retires in the summer.

Talbot: Arranged by Jaida A

Big Choir Free Choice

Sa’adu: Coldplay Medley arr. Molly Hood and Ferdia Tindall

Bands

Darwin: "Locked Out of Heaven" by Bruno Mars

The Saull Cup for musical performance and house inclusivity: Talbot

The Coomer Cup, for outstanding individual performance: Vishvesh S and Jaina A of Talbot.

Based on these results, the contest for the House Music trophy was exceedingly tight between Talbot and Darwin with just one point taking Dr Dolding’s Talbot house in front to win.
