Saturday 14th of December saw our annual ON Sports day take place at main school and Longford.
The ON football team was "outstanding". This was the same team that managed to win the U19 League 1 division and make advances in the County Cup. On returning to Longford to play our current first team, they were victorious with a score of 4-2.
Our current netball captains reported that the match between last year’s team and the school was a real nail-biter with the leavers leading for 90% of the game but with school managing to pull a win out in the last quarter, 24-23.
Our newest PE teacher, Emily Hulland was in charge of hockey for the day and said: "The 1st XI took their recent success into their performance against the Old Novaportan team on Saturday 14th December which starred many of last year’s leavers and hockey coach Matt Hadley-Moore. The school team secured a 4-2 win in the match, and both teams displayed high-quality hockey."
Mr Mulhern provided his view on the rugby:
"The Old Boys Rugby team came back to Longford en masse, and were once again ably led by their erstwhile captain Harkeratt Chhokar.
Despite having much of the possession and territory School found themselves trailing at half time 7 – 10. Typically, last year’s cohort put up an outstanding defensive performance. It was great to see both sides showing an ambition to move the ball with the Old Boys throwing caution to the wind and trying to run everything and anything and even from behind their own try line!
Following a slide rule kick pass from School’s Oli Wiser, winger Elliot Clarrance scored out wide. School went onto take a 24 – 7 lead before Old Boys rallied late in the second half; following an excellent kick chase and quick transition from defence into attack, Mitchell galloped in under the posts for Old Boys and ensured a final score of 24 – 17. The score really did reflect what a wonderfully competitive game this was. On the final whistle there was a real sense of respect and togetherness; all the lads knew they had given their best and provided a great game to watch. Many thanks to Mr James Tagg who facilitated the flow of the game through his refereeing."
