Some of our ONs who tragically died in the First World War have been remembered by a group of pupils during a very special Word War I Battlefields history trip to France.

Year 9 pupils had the opportunity to spend a few days touring significant sites of World War I. During their packed three-day visit, they went to see the Lochnagar Crate, learnt about the medical treatment offered to soldiers, toured trenches and visited Passchendaele Memorial Museum.

One of their tasks during their trip was to remember ONs who tragically lost their lives in World War I. They laid some beautiful 3D printed poppies on wooden crosses at sites where they were commemorated with some plaques giving more details about each ON.

At the Tyne Cot cemetery, they placed memorials for Pte William E Perkins of the London Regiment and Pte Thomas J. Morris of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

At the Menin Gate, they remembered Pte John Selby of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

They then visited the Canadian memorial Vimy Ridge where they paid their respects to Pte Richard Dudleston Lea and Pte Reginald Ambrose Slaney of the Canadian Infantry.

Pupils also witnessed the very moving Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate and two of our CCF students, Maaz Kahn and Oliver Shannahan, also had the honour of laying a wreath in memory of ONs who fell in the war. They looked exceptionally smart in their CCF uniforms.
