We recently received the sad news from his daughter, Julie, that Mr John H. Deakin passed away March 2024, aged 85.
John was a pupil at Adams from 1949 until 1956 and was active in school Rugby and Cricket, before heading to St Andrews University to study Chemistry. After completing his teacher training, John then joined Adams as Head of Chemistry in 1972, and served here until 1990s, also taking on the role as Boarding Master for Adams House for 10 years, aided by his wife, Gill.
Following his retirement, John and Gill enjoyed several holidays in Scotland, which they loved to visit. Following the sad passing of his wife in 2004, John kept busy with his house and garden, his love of making and running model trains, and his family, including four grandchildren.
A huge thanks to his daughter, Julie, who sent in two of his school uniform caps for our archive collection.
